Sustainable Earth: Water
Clean water is essential for life, but most people in the developed world don't think much about the water they use for drinking, food preparation, and sanitation. In developing nations, however, the search for safe drinking water can be a daily crisis. Millions of...

Solving Water Scarcity through Innovation
From California to China, the alarm bells are ringing. Fast-growing cities globally are running short of safe and reliable drinking water as they cope with population growth, climate change and unsustainable water use practices. It’s estimated that over the next three...
Digital Transformation

The Smart Solutions for Water have just arrived!
Water is a too precious resource to be wasted by inefficient systems and the planet keeps warning us of its scarcity. Companies as well as local and central Governments have claimed as their duty addressing its flagrant waste. The new developed systems offers a more...

Partnership for the Digital Transformation
In theory, we can make a leap forward in two ways: in the hard way, by learning, testing and improving permanently, or in the easy way, by copying those who have already been recognized. In life, we know that usually no standard recipes can be applied for success, no...

Piero Fraternali
Full Professor at Politecnico di Milano
He is Head of the Degree Course in Computer Engineering of the Como Campus of the Politecnico di Milano. His main research interests concern database integrity, active databases, software engineering, and methodologies and tools for WEB application development. He is co-inventor of WebML a model for the conceptual design of Web applications.
Professor Fraternali is the main author of SmartH2O - the software platform that creates a virtuous feedback cycle between water users and the utilities, providing users information on their consumption in quasi real time, and thus enabling water utilities to plan and implement strategies to reduce/reallocate water consumption. The SmartH2O platform adopts a gamification paradigm to motivate users to change their water use behaviour and different incentives.

Andrea Emilio Rizzoli
Senior Researcher at IDSIA, Professor at SUPSI

(*) Jasminko Novak
Professor of Information Systems at Univ. of Appl. Sciences Stralsund, Chairman European Institute Participatory Media
Some of his topics of interest in the water innovation refer to: Integrating Behavioural Change and Gamified Incentive Modelling for stimulating water saving, Design of Gamified Systems for Energy and Water Sustainability. Professor Novak is an author of the SmartH2O platform, developed for demonstrating the impact of gamification technologies for saving water.
